Ali lahko psi jedo mačjo hrano?

Ste opazili, kako je psom mačja hrana privlačna – če imate oba, verjetno. Ne glede na to, kako dobo so naučeni, da jedo svojo hrano, bodo vsaj sem in tja gotovo prigriznili tudi mačjo.

Je s tem kaj narobe?

Razlike med mačjo in pasjo hrano so v tem, da so psi vsejedi, mački pa mesojedi. Zato  zdrava pasja hrana vsebuje več sestavin – tako živalskih kot rastlinskih.  Mačke naj bi uživale predvsem meso, saj imajo večje potrebe po beljakovinah in tudi po maščobah kot psi. Poleg tega mačke nujno potrebujejo 11 esencialnih aminokislin, torej eno več kot psi – tavrin.

Torej, kar sledi iz tega je, da za pse ni nič narobe, če jedo mačjo hrano – obratno pa ne velja.

Logično je tudi, da zaradi večje vsebnosti mesa psom mačja hrana bolj diši, morda je tudi zanje pravzaprav bolj primerna, posebej za starejše, bolne ali vse, ki imajo slab apetit, ali izgubljajo mišično maso.

Kdaj mačja hrana lahko povzroči težave?

Težava lahko nastane. če pes zaradi tega zaužije preveč beljakovin, maščob in kalorij oz če uživa hrano s hranili v nepravem razmerju. Primeri, ko mačja hana v pasji skledi ni primerna, so denimo pes z občutljivim želodcem oz prebavo, pes, ki ima ledvična ali jetrna obolenja, predebel pes, psi, ki so nagnjeni k razvoju pankreatitisa. … Pri vseh teh primerih lahko mačja hrana težave poveča.

Vsekakor ni enoznačnega odgovora, ali je mačja hrana za našega psa zaželena, nezaželena ali pač občasno v redu. Najbolje se je posvetovati z veterinarjem, ni pa treba, da nas skrbi, če od časa do časa naš pes prigrizne kakšen mačji briket.
